Our story
The stones that surfaced with the plough
Generation after generation, farm work kept bringing ancient sculptures to light. Instead of looting them, the family chose to protect them and leave them exactly where their creators carved them.

FAQ
How to get to Vegonia Arqueológica?+
Vegonia Arqueológica is in Vereda Morelia, Saladoblanco (Huila). From San Agustín, the archaeological heart of Huila, it is about 1 hour (28 km) on a well-kept unpaved road. From Neiva: take the road to Pitalito (~3 hours) and then Saladoblanco (~45 min). Coordinates 2.0544°N, -76.1813°W. We send exact directions when you book via WhatsApp at +57 313 665 5001.
What should I bring for my visit?+
For the archaeological tour: rubber or tennis shoes, comfortable long-sleeve clothing (sun protection), insect repellent, water and a camera. For mountain expeditions (Arco de las Jarras, Laguna del Dorado): trekking footwear, waterproof jacket, warm clothing, flashlight and extra snacks. Plans include all meals, so you do not need to bring food for the plan.
How can I book and what are the payment methods?+
Reservations are made via WhatsApp at +57 313 665 5001. A 50% advance payment is required to confirm the date. We accept Nequi (at 310 255 2545), bank transfer to Bancolombia, or cash at the farm. The remaining balance is paid at check-in. Cancellations more than 48 hours in advance receive a full refund of the advance payment.
Are the archaeological pieces legally held? What is ICANH?+
Yes. The Colombian Institute of Anthropology and History (ICANH) is the Colombian State entity that regulates and protects archaeological heritage. Vegonia holds ICANH Resolution No. 1457 of October 4, 2023, which authorizes the legitimate custody of 6 pieces and lots: 3 statues, 1 slab lot and 2 grinding stones. The pieces belong to the Nation but the authorized custodian (Juan Pablo Paladinez Anacona) cares for them and makes them accessible to the public, contributing to their conservation.
Who built these sculptures and when?+
The sculptures and cancel tombs of Vegonia were created by the ancestral culture of the Upper Magdalena, the pre-Hispanic group that inhabited this region between the 6th century BC and the 17th century AD. Radiocarbon dates from the site place the burials between the 6th century AD (Beta-10232) and the 10th century AD. Archaeologist Héctor Llanos (1984) cataloged it as the largest and best-preserved residential nucleus of the Upper Magdalena, with more than 112 artificial terraces across 8 hectares.
Do you accommodate groups or companies? Do you have an event space?+
Yes. We have a space available for training sessions, workshops or corporate team-building activities. Room rental: $150,000/day; kitchen rental: $50,000/day. For large groups (more than 6 people) please check availability and special rates via WhatsApp. Guide-led excursions also adapt to groups: the guide to Laguna del Dorado, Salto de Bordones and Arco de las Jarras has a group price (≤5 people) with additional cost per extra person.
What is the best time to visit?+
Vegonia is a year-round destination thanks to its temperate climate (12-24°C, altitude 1,500-2,100 m.a.s.l.). December-January and June-August are dry seasons, which favor mountain excursions. The rainy months (April-May and October-November) are perfect for enjoying lush vegetation and waterfall flows. The archaeological reserve can be visited in any weather condition.
